Each student has different needs, desires, and learning styles, so I tailor my teaching to each individual. I work with all ages using a well-rounded approach that integrates all aspects of musicianship.

• Theory: An understanding of harmony and chord structure which I apply and use to teach the pieces and techniques we're working on.

• Musicality and interpretation

• Ear training and sight reading

• I hold student recitals at least twice a year

• Lead sheet reading: I teach reading by chord symbols as used for pop music and jazz.

• Accompaniment: I teach accompaniment skills to those who sing or accompany other instrumentalists or singers. 

• I also teach voice.

FEES:

Lessons are $75 per hour, $37.50 per half hour, and $56.25 per 45 minutes. Lessons are offered and payable by the term in one, two, or monthly payments. Longer lessons are advised for older and more advanced students. There is a surcharge if I go to your house.

JAZZ PIANO FOR ADULTS and ADVANCED STUDENTS:

With a thorough indoctrination of jazz harmonic structure around the circle of fifths in all keys, I encourage the jazz piano student to use the vast multitude of jazz scales, chords, voicings, riffs and arpeggios as a language with which to base improvisation and maximize creativity.

JAZZ VOCAL LESSONS:

Along with vocal jazz coaching, interpretation, repertoire selection and technique, Bonnie teaches jazz harmony, uses vocalizes, teaches students how to transpose to the key that best suits their voice, and to write good charts. She also is a great accompanist and likes to teach jazz piano for vocalists.

BACKGROUND:

Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Minor in Voice. Jazz studies with Ted Alexander and Katy Roberts. Over twenty-five years of private teaching experience.
